The intention of this project was the reconversion of two existing buildings into one integrated educational space. In 1939, one of the two buildings was honoured with the Valmor Prize; its classification as a building of public interest determined the preservation of its façade and original layout. The new school comprises three facilities: a crèche, pre-school and years 1-4 of primary school, duly accompanied by their respective areas for functional and pedagogic support. This programme determined the full occupation of the buildings and the surrounding space. Thus, there was investment in the extension of passageways and the improvement of communal spaces, which were tailored to their target public.

The distribution in the layout between the two buildings intended to ensure the organisation of the students by age and a more rationalised use of the facilities. As a result, the operational management of the school was facilitated, allowing, for example, for the organisation of the timetables for use of the cafeteria and playground according to age groups. The separate entrances to the two buildings also guarantee harmony at the busy times when students arrive and depart from the school, which in the case of younger students, is very important.
