Saraiva+Associados

Built in the first half of the 19th century, this estate used to be one of the most pleasurable locales in the city of Funchal, a place of memory in the heart of Madeira island. The revitalisation of its landscape and grounds sought to optimise comfort, ensure a diversity of cultural and sports facilities and refurbish a leisure area for the local population. Carefully incorporating contemporary solutions into pre-existing structures, the project included a newly refurbished main building, which was converted into a museum, a studio for artist residencies and areas for restaurant/bar services, as well as a restoration of the estate’s sports facilities, trails and pedestrian walkways.
